This time fashion month was so action packed that I have not yet processed everything that happened. This is why I like to take time after it ends to go through shows at peace and look at the garments without any drama or narratives. I do my research manually like its still the 20th century, going through every show and picture as Vogue Runway tests my flimsy patience. I tried to cheat with ChatGPT but it simply refused to help me. This was a labour of love and you will find some things no other publication has posted yet. Let’s see!
The trends we see on the fashion weeks end up trickling down to high street fashion, some catch on and some don’t. This time I feel bows, animal prints, lace, and colour trends will be the ones that catch on - simply because they are easier to achieve. I don’t expect anything structured or tailored to become huge but it does indicate a preference for a good fit.
Another trend that was discussed by some people is that of ‘camelocracy’ or ‘stealth wealth’. It is true that these sentiments are an underlayer to everything we saw this month. Bottega Veneta making leather into knits, denim, and flannel is a prime example of this, not to mention a brilliant technical achievement. To not wonder about the political and social implications of this trend is a luxury I wish I had. For now, I will enjoy it guiltily and take solace in the fact that the bourgeoise will continue wearing Chanel and Dior.
